Attacking Poverty in Appalachia

Distributing food in AppalachiaMarch 2010- Christian Relief Services, in partnership with Americans Helping Americans®, believes in giving a hand up not a hand out by providing assistance to over 37,362 men, women and children in fiscal year 2009 (ending June 31, 2009) through in-kind goods including food, shoes, school kits, hygiene kits, coats, blankets, toys and diapers. So far this fiscal year we have assisted 5,354 individuals and 312 Veterans and the numbers keeps growing.

Food donated to Appalachian food pantries  – 122,762 pounds to programs in Appalachia

Holiday food
provided  – 5,180 turkeys

School Supplies
  – 950 backpacks filled willed with paper, notebooks, pencils, crayons and other essential schools supplies
